Early Days
At the age of eleven, a teacher entered Rebecca into a local Christian songwriting competition in which she was a finalist.
At twenty-four Rebecca won The London Songwriters' Showcase and went on to represent England in The Women Of The World in which twelve countries each sponsored a female singer/songwriter.
Coming To America
In 1992 Rebecca teamed up with Jackson Park (Capital Radio) to form the band "Life" which was managed by Simon Napier-Bell (WHAM!, Marc Bolan, Dusty Springfield), but after a series of showcases that brought little response from the UK record industry Rebecca decided to pursue her career elsewhere.
Setting off to the USA by herself in 1995 was "terrifying" says Rebecca, "I had no job, no money, and I knew no-one in Nashville. I got a job selling advertising and for the next six months slept on a blow-up air mattress in a crummy apartment." Five months later she was signed to BMG International but despite being asked to play the famous Bluebird Café twice "no-one knew what to do with an English girl singing pop songs in the middle of the country music scene".
After releasing an independent CD under the name "Rebecca Roberts" she was invited to Los Angeles by producer Pat Finn of In-Finn-Ity Productions but still she didn't quite fit the mold and after several months of performing all over L.A. she returned to Nashville and married the man she had left behind. Together they decided to move to Atlanta, GA and Rebecca "gave up music and got a proper job" as a Real Estate Agent, working for Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty.
Finding Religion
Three children later (she now had a daughter aged 4 and 1 year old boy and girl twins) Rebecca was enjoying her life as a wife, mother and business woman. "I really felt like I had it all and that I was really blessed. My only pang of regret was that I was no longer writing or singing "
In 2005 Rebecca sold a home to an attorney and his wife. The attorney asked if Rebecca would consider coming along to sing at his church one Sunday. "She resisted and resisted" says Greg Rogers "but I had a feeling that she had this incredible talent that she needed to share and that God had an important plan for her".
"As soon as I got back on stage it was as though everything clicked into place and suddenly I was writing again, songs with meaning - about pain and hope and the search for truth"
Still Searching?
Her new album titled "Still Searching" was recorded in Marietta, GA with the help of producer J. David Leonard (past president of The Atlanta Songwriters Association and master engineer of India Arie's "Interested") and features ten tracks ranging from "Call Yourself A Christian?" - a tongue-in-cheek reggae based song to the powerful "Let Us Pray" - an anthem to the Lord's Prayer. Her Christmas song "Emmanuel" tells the good news in a fresh way while "Messenger" brings the album to a worshipful close.
2009 Since moving back to England in 2006 Rebecca has been taking another break from writing and performing in order to focus on her and her husband's business (www.sunbeltnetwork.co.uk) but she is currently working on a third CD and is looking forward to getting back behind the microphone where she belongs!
